Today with the internet and the digital age it’s important to consider internet speed limitations, and screen resolutions.
Large uncompressed images take a long time to load, and for some with slower connections, they can experience long delays and persistent time-outs. Also for a large majority of internet users it is impossible for them to view and appreciate your photo at large dimensions.
Uploading large files can also cause you problems with long delays and even time-outs. You also have to consider that it costs website owners such as SnapAlley when you upload a photo.
SnapAlley has been optimised for the viewing pleasure of over 99% of it’s visitors and members, with fast loading pages and photos that fit their screen, allowing them to appreciate your photos.
Below are tutorials which detail how to resize and optimse your photos for SnapAlley and other websites.
This website will help you to quickly resize your photo

3. Click on the Files tab. Then select the file type, you’ll need to select jpg, you’ll then need to select the folder where you store your photos in the ‘Look In’ area
4. You’ll then notice a list of files in that folder listed below the ‘Look In’ panel, select one of these files to preview it in the right hand panel..
5. Now click on the settings tab at the top, you’ll want to type in the max width and height, which is 700 pixels for non premier members and for premier members it’s 1000pixels width and 720pixels height. Then in the ‘Resize’ drop down menu select ‘Shrink to fit’. Do NOT change anything in algorithm, prefix/suffix or New name
6. Next you’ll need to compress the file by using the JPEG quality slider
7. Select Preview output on the right hand preview pain, you can now slide the JPEG quality slider to the left until you notice a difference in quality.
8. You then need to check the top bar where it displays the name of the file, the dimensions and the file size in bytes. 105KB = 107,520 bytes, once it’s below 107,520 bytes, click ‘Make’ at the bottom and, your photo will be resized and optimised for SnapAlley and many other websites.
